Lovely to Meet You
Admin PostsPublished July 19, 2010 at 1:24 pmOkay chaps, I am actually posting my work now which is rather unfortunate for you because my poetry is rubbish. ^_^ All well. Sorry I can’t post my prose for aforementioned reasons.
Here is a poem I wrote today that is called Lovely to Meet You, although it could alternatively be titled “Why Laura Should Put Down the Poet’s Pen and Stick with Prose.”
Lovely to Meet You
You see her. Don’t pretend you don’t because
even she knows you can see her.
It’s something about the way your gaze
lingers in the nothing
drifting in the air near her or the way you lean unnaturally away from her as
if you too can be as easily swayed by the
wind as the leaves are.
And you might say something to her about
how the book resting between her long,
thin fingers is the same one she was reading yesterday,
but you don’t.
And you might ask her if she has any plans
(for the weekend) and if she’s been to the cinema to
see that new movie with Tom Cruise,
but you don’t.
And your friends, they always gossip about her
in rustling whispers behind their hands
about how she’s always alone with that damn book or
about how she listens when they sit on the
grassy lawn near her and it’s so
creepy, isn’t it? It’s creepy!
And she’s never with anyone and she
never speaks to anyone and
even though it might be true
You don’t believe them when they talk about her,
do you?
……………………………………………………..
Fin. Yes, yes, that was rubbish and I need to write another poem tonight. So I must jet.
I’ll post again later.
Cheers-
Laura
